Program Spotlight: Water Programs

Each month in the lead-up to summer, we’ll be spotlighting some of this year’s summer camp programs. This month, we want to highlight our water programs!

Corcls, unique round boats with a variety of fun uses for kids, were introduced in 2023.

As the story goes, the initial idea to create Skye Farm way back in 1942 was shared while sitting on a boulder on the shore of Sherman Lake. We’re blessed to have such a beautiful, clean, and welcoming lake as part of our site, and these programs make the most of it! Water programs offer classic camp activities, plus extra time for swimming and water sports. Campers get to try new things, learn new skills, and maybe even see a loon or two!

Lake Life is the perfect program for kids who are always wishing for more time to swim and hang out at the lake! It’s a classic camp experience, with extra time for swimming, kayaking, canoeing, corcling, and playing games and spending time at the lake. The program is open to campers ages 12-15 who are confident deep water swimmers. Lake Life is running July 13 - 18.

Wondrous Waters is a new program for 2025, and is the latest iteration of a long history of aquatic adventure programs. Campers ages 12-15 will maximize their time in, on, and around the Adirondacks’ many amazing lakes and rivers. In addition to extra lake time at camp for things like corcling, sailing, and log rolling, campers spend a day on an offsite canoe trip and another day whitewater rafting down the Hudson. Campers must be confident deep water swimmers. Wondrous Waters is running July 27 - August 1.

New Kids on the Dock is another new program for 2025, offering a water program for younger campers! This program is all about having fun at the lake and getting more comfortable and confident in the water. Experienced lifeguards will guide campers ages 8-11 during extra time swimming, relaxing, and playing games at the waterfront. Regardless of swim ability, this program is for campers who love to spend time in the water! New Kids on the Dock is running July 20 - 25.

Summer camp registrations are rolling in! Remember to check out all of this year’s programs and share with the people in your life who could benefit from time at camp! Word of mouth from trusted friends, family, and congregation members is one of the best ways to get kids to try out camp for the first time. Need camp brochures? Thursday Crew News

This month, we’d like to use this section of the newsletter to honor Russ Boggs, a wonderful, dedicated member of the Thursday Crew who passed away this March. In the words of the Thursday Crew:

“He was without a doubt the best guy I've had he privilege of knowing.” - Lane Schermerhorn

“He was quite a gentleman. A real inspiration. At 90 he out worked most of us. He had an incredible amount of knowledge and skill, and readily shared with all of us. He really enjoyed being part of the team, about as much as we enjoyed his company. He will really be missed.” - Jay Dunkleberger

“With the death of Russ we have all lost a great ally, colleague, and supporter of Skye Farm. We were blessed to have his energy and enthusiasm operating in our midst. Our prayers go out to Eleanor and his family. The memory of his good nature and friendly style will continue to motivate us in the days ahead.” - Ralph Marino

“A really nice man, so pleasant and interesting to be around, wish I could shake his hand one more time.” - John Orton

“The first day we worked together I know he would be a great asset to our team.  I really looked forward to working with him on various projects and will always remember some of the little tricks he showed me.” - Ernie Melin

We are grateful to have known Russ, and grateful that he chose to spend his Thursdays with us, giving his time and expertise to making Skye Farm a better place. Click here to read his obituary.
